Francisco Limão: Portuguese Teacher
I have a degree in Languages, Literature, and Cultures, and a Master’s degree in Translation. At the beginning of my professional experience, I started by working at the beach libraries in Oeiras and doing some translation work. I quickly became interested in teaching Portuguese when I began giving lessons to immigrants and refugees in Lisbon. I realised that I was engaging in a different type of translation due to the cultural mediation effort it required, and because it allowed me to see my own language from a new perspective.
I wish to inspire in my students the same enthusiasm for learning a new language that I felt when I learned English, French, and German. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, swimming, and hiking.
