So, tell me about yourself
My name is Ismael, I’ve been living in Cascais since I was born so I am from Cascais. I’m 17 years old and study at Salesianos do Estoril
When did you start studying at ELC?
That a good question! I think around 5 years ago because I have had Martin, Gerry, Caroline, and then Gerry again and now Jeremy..
Why did you start studying here?
My brother started studying here first and he seemed to be having good results, also at school although at school it is much different from here. He said the teachers where very good, qualified, and friendly and I have always wanted to continue my English studies besides school ones. Also I did study in the British council in Cascais but it closed. I did spend two months in Parede but I actually prefer this one, its closer to my house also and I think the facilities are great.
Great – and what else do you like about studying at ELC?
I have made good friends here.
What areas do you feel you have made most progress in?
Writing mostly. Speaking I think it’s much easier because I see films, series and music that are in English and you kind of get the pronunciation, not perfectly of course but you don’t see the subtitles although on the British channels, most of them have subtitles.
How do you think English will help you in the future?
It’s guaranteed that it will help me. For example I am going to university next year and most of the subjects the books and manuals I have to study are in English, not in Portuguese and unfortunately probably I will have to leave my country and I’ll need to know a language and English is almost guaranteed that almost everyone knows. It is a global language.
What advice would you give to younger / other students?
Well, it’s not easy to learn any language but don’t give up, keep studying, do your homework and have fun.
Great – thank you very much for talking to us.
