In Conversation With...
Cath French
Portugal
So, can you tell me about yourself Cath?
I’m from England, from Newcastle in the north east. But my husband and I lived in Oxford for 10 years.
How long have you been in Portugal?
We’ve been here for 3 and a half years.
And do you like Cascais?
Yes, very much! We live in Carcavelos and i work in Algés; i’m a scientist.
When did you start studying at ELC?
Six months after arriving in Portugal. Now we have been at ELC for 2 and a half years.
Why did you start studying here?
Well, it was strange! We did a search online and ELC was the first school we found. We had an experimental lesson and loved it!
Ok! So, what do you like about studying here?
Sofia has always been our teacher and she’s great!
Great! And what do you like doing best in lessons?
We try to speak as much as possible. We don’t really need to write, more speaking with colleagues and friends. For me it’s easier and more practical to speak.
That’s a good approach! And how will Portuguese help you in the future?
Well, we may return to England soon, but for now we hope to continue speaking as much Portuguese as possible.
What advice would you give to people who don’t know ELC?
The lessons are very flexible; it depends what you want to learn and for us, it’s great that Sofia is flexible! And really nice, too.
Great, thank you!
Thank you!
